Operation Andrew Captain
Responsibilities of the Operation Andrew Captain
- Promote Operation Andrew in churches, youth groups, etc…
- To help every Christian participating in the Campaign to do three things:
- Target 5 un-reached people
- Pray for these people
- Invite and bring the 5 people to the IWT Events
- Invite special groups to the IWT Events, e.g. special care housing
The Operation Andrew Team is responsible for promoting the Operation Andrew prayer and evangelism strategy in the churches and the city. Operation Andrew is based on the scripture in John 1:35-42, where the first thing Andrew does after meeting Jesus was to tell his brother Peter and bring him to Jesus. Through Operation Andrew, every Christian is encouraged to pray for 5 people, talk to them about Jesus, and invite them to the Impact World Tour. The strategy of Operation Andrew is carried out in three Sundays:
Operation Andrew Sunday On this Sunday, each participating church will devote at least a segment, if not all of the service, to focus on the message of “reaching your neighbor for Christ,” using the sermon in John 1:35-42. Each person in the congregation will receive an Operation Andrew Card and be given time to write down the names of the five people they are going to target.
Contact Sunday (6 weeks pre-Campaign) On this Sunday the Church Prayer Coordinator or Pastor should strongly encourage the congregation to make contact with the people for whom they have committed to pray. It is suggested that for this service 5 minutes is taken to pray in small groups for boldness and divine appointments.
Invite Sunday On this Sunday, the Church Prayer Coordinator or pastor should strongly encourage the congregation to invite those individuals for whom they have been praying to the Campaign event. Tickets will be handed out to use in the invitations. Again it is suggested for maximum involvement that the church stops for 5 minutes and, in small groups, prays for each other for boldness and favor as they invite their friends, family and co-workers. Task list
- Talk with the IWT Coordinator to set dates for the three Sundays mentioned above. These dates should immediately go onto the Impact World Tour calendar. The Impact World Tour Coordinator should take care of this and make sure pastors know the dates in advance.
- Ask the IWT Coordinator for a list of participating churches and the Sunday attendance of each.
- One month before Operation Andrew Sunday, send every pastor a letter explaining the Operation Andrew strategy and the goals for Operation Andrew Sunday. Ask the pastor to take time on the given Sunday to explain the basis for Operation Andrew, and more importantly to set aside that Sunday’s sermon to talk about our responsibility for prayer and evangelism. Be sure to include a sample Operation Andrew Card, directions for handing out the cards, and the future Operation Andrew dates.
- Communicate with the Prayer Representative from each church to make sure they understand the purpose and timeline of Operation Andrew. Set a time with them to pick up and deliver the Operation Andrew cards for their church 2 weeks prior to Operation Andrew Sunday.
- Organize volunteers to count out the Operation Andrew cards for each church. Communicate with the IWT Coordinator to find out when the cards will be printed and when volunteers can come to the office to count them.
- Talk to the Prayer Representative or send a letter to the pastor of each church 2 weeks in advance of Contact Sunday and Invite Sunday to remind them to take the time during service to have the congregation to pray and encourage the congregation to contact their targeted people.
Special Invitations
- Make a list of special groups in the community that your team could invite to the Impact World Tour. Examples of groups would be retirement homes, special care facilities, Boy Scout Troops, etc.
- Show the list to the IWT Coordinator to make sure that nobody else is contacting that group.
- Contact each group and personally invite them to the Impact World Tour. Find out if there are any special needs they have in order to come (e.g. handicapped seating, interpreters, etc).
- Contact the IWT Coordinator to let them know the groups that will be coming and their needs. Discuss who will organize these needs and further actions that need to be taken.
- Keep each group in prayer during the months before the IWT Events.
- Confirm attendance of groups and nights of attendance. Confirm that all needs will be met.
- Arrange for an appropriate person to great each group when they arrive on the event nights, bring them to their reserved seating, and take care of their needs.
