Whilst advertising makes people aware of an evangelistic event, it’s the personal relationship and care that prepares the ground and helps bring them along to hear the Gospel.

Operation Andrew is a concerted prayer effort to pray by name for people we know who need Jesus and then personally inviting them to come to the events. The goal of Operation Andrew is to help every Christian participating in the outreach to do three things:
  • identify at least 5 unreached individuals in their sphere of influence
  • pray for these people, and
  • invite and bring them to the event(s)
We encourage each participating church to devote at least a segment, if not all of the service, to focus on the message of “reaching your neighbour for Christ,” (a sample sermon outline is provided using John 1:35-42). We suggest that this should happen about 8 weeks before the local events take place.

On the right you find some suggestions you might want to pass on to groups within your church or to Sunday School leaders.

There is a vital link between those that have personally been prayed for and invited to the events and those that respond to the message. Not only are they more likely to respond, they also already have a relationship with someone from your church that provides a natural connection for discipleship. When you hand out the cards, ask everyone to indicate the ages of the people they are committing to pray for on the bottom stub and then collect only the stubs. While this is no exact science, it does give you an indication of who is likely to respond. Is there a relevant place for discipleship for them in your church community? There is still time now to prepare a place for them.

If you have any further questions regarding Operation Andrew, please contact the IWT Scotland office.
